OUR STORY

The Crooked Rook, board game cafe, restaurant, board game, boardgame, games, chalkboard art, logo, rook, castle, cafe, coffee

Who doesn't love a good board game? My earliest memories of playing board games comes from playing chess and checkers with my grandfather in the mornings before school. From there, I was introduced to Monopoly, Sorry, Risk, Battleship, and all the classics of one's childhood. As I grew older, I discovered more in-depth games such as Axis & Allies, Heroquest, and Catan.

I started a board game cafe in 2015 in Anderson, SC. After a year of operating, I was forced to close down when I took a job as a youth pastor at a local church. But the fire and passion for board games never died. After several years of feeling it tug as my calling, I am proud to be bringing the Crooked Rook back, although in a different version, it's a version I believe can still bring friends and families together around a board game.

Nothing beats getting together with friends or family for a game night! In an age of technology, board games are seeing a resurgence in everyday life. I started the Crooked Rook to create a space for family and friends to get together and play board games, create memories, and have fun.
